ILOILO CITY – The 100-volume inventory for the Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras (CMPG) project has been unveiled.
Hundreds gathered at the Iloilo City campus of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas) on Friday, June 19, for the turnover the published books of the CMPG project.
The CMPG project documented built heritage, movable heritage, intangible cultural heritage, key persons, flora and fauna, and other natural resources of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as Iloilo City.
Led by project manager Prof. Martin Genodepa and project leader Anna Razel L. Ramirez of UP Visayas, the CMPG Project tapped State universities to partner with local governments and local communities in documenting cultural assets.
The CMPG Project research teams were West Visayas State University (WVSU), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), Iloilo Science University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), Capiz State University (CAPSU), University of Antique (UA), Aklan State University (ASU), and Guimaras State University (GSU).
Funded by the Office of Sen. Loren Legarda, the CMPG Project is part of the implementation of the Cultural Mapping Law of 2023.
The CPMG Project had technical assistance from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in training the research assistants of each university and was backed by UP Visayas Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS).
Negros Occidental province was included in the CMPG Project as its culture and heritage are close to Panay Island, particularly Iloilo. The CMPG Project has a website.
