ILOILO CITY – The Capiz Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has recorded new African Swine Fever cases in Roxas City and the towns of Pontevedra and Panitan.
These were reported more than three years after a spike in ASF cases was recorded in Panay Island in 2023.
An advisory released by the Capiz PVO on Friday, June 19, said that blood samples yielded positive results in tests conducted by the Regional Animal Diseases and Diagnostic Laboratory under the Department of Agriculture (DA) here.
The acceleration in ASF cases was due to weather fluctuations.
The Capiz PVO is implementing several protocols against ASF.
Among these are biosecurity measures in affected farms – disinfection of farm premises, farm equipment, as well as trucks used for transports;
reporting to the nearest agriculture and veterinary offices when ASF cases arise, and prohibiting the trading and selling of deceased pigs as contamination may still occur.
