Alas Pilipinas standouts Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo extended their professional run overseas after recently re-signing with their respective clubs.
Bagunas, 28, inked a new deal in Japan’s SV.League after a championship victory with the Osaka Blueton last month where they dethroned the Suntory Sunbirds.
The victory marked a successful pro return for Bagunas in the Japanese tournament following their bronze-medal finish a season prior. More importantly, he became the first Filipino to bag the league’s crown.
“Honored to renew with Osaka Bluteon! Thank you to the club, my teammates, and all the fans for the incredible support. I’m excited for another season and ready to give my all. Let’s make more history together!” Bagunas said on Osaka’s Instagram post.
Bagunas’ Alas teammate Espejo also re-signed with the reigning champion TSG Skyhawks to remain in the Taiwan Volleyball League.
The 29-year-old Espejo, a titlist in Taiwanese and Korean competitions, was one of the key players as the Skyhawks reigned supreme in the inaugural edition of Taiwan meet.
Bagunas and Espejo, both decorated in the collegiate scene back in the day, bannered Alas Men’s bronze-medal finish at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand last December.
They also took part in the promising run of the Nationals in the country's hosting of the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Cup in September.
