40 couples marry in Danao City mass wedding

CEBU CITY – Forty couples exchanged “I do’s” in a mass wedding in Danao City, Cebu on Thursday, June 18.
Danao Vice Mayor Ivy Durano led city officials who attended the free mass wedding at the Santo Tomas de Villanueva Parish. The solemn activity was part of Danao’s 65th charter anniversary celebration.
In her message, Durano said the exchange of vows was more than just a ceremony but a celebration of love, hope, and faith.
Durano said ensuring strong family ties is part of the city’s priority five-point agenda. “A strong family is the foundation of a progressive community,” said Durano.
Durano said the city government, headed by Mayor Nito Durano, organized the mass wedding to help couples who could not get the chance to legalize their relationship due to financial constraints.
Documents needed by the couples for the wedding, reception venue, and food were shouldered by the city government.
The city offered the free wedding to couples with children who have been living together for at least five years. “We wanted to help couples who dream of a holy union but couldn’t do so because of some challenges,” Durano said.
Durano advised them to stay strong in every challenge that their marriage may encounter.
For the relationship to last, Durano reminded the couples to be understanding, trusting, respectful, patient, and always communicate.
“Congratulations to the newlyweds. It is our hope that your unions will be full of love, happiness, prayers, and strong faith as you journey in the many chapters of your lives,” said Durano.
