Paying tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in the country’s struggle for freedom and nation-building, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park on Friday, June 19, marking the national hero’s 165th birth anniversary.
The ceremony brought together city officials, representatives from various government agencies, and members of civic organizations to honor Rizal’s life and contributions to Philippine history.
Participants offered floral wreaths and observed solemn rites at the monument, recognizing Rizal not only as a hero of the past but as a continuing symbol of patriotism, courage, and civic responsibility.
City officials said the annual observance serves as a reminder of Rizal’s role in awakening Filipino nationalism and inspiring the country’s pursuit of independence through peaceful reform and intellectual resistance.
They added that commemorating Rizal’s birth anniversary is also an opportunity for Filipinos, especially the youth, to reflect on the values he stood for: love of country, integrity, and dedication to public service.
