Police arrested a 43-year-old man just hours after he allegedly shot and killed a fish vendor in Las Piñas City on Thursday, June 18.
Las Piñas Police chief Col. Ricky Neron identified the suspect only as “Kenjie,” a resident of Gloria Compound in Barangay Pilar. He was apprehended at around 10 a.m. on Platinum Road in the same barangay.
The victim, Vigilio, 49, sustained a gunshot wound to the right temple. He was rushed to Las Piñas District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said Vigilio and a companion had arrived early to open their fish stall.
While the victim was parking their vehicle, his companion heard a gunshot and found him bleeding on the pavement. The suspect was seen fleeing toward the Aguilar Sports Complex.
A hot pursuit operation was immediately launched.
Through CCTV footage review, intelligence gathering, and surveillance, investigators identified and tracked down the suspect, leading to his swift arrest.
Recovered from him were a .45-caliber pistol, a magazine, and five live rounds of ammunition, now in police custody for forensic examination.
Authorities are preparing appropriate charges against the suspect.
