Triple School Alliance wins Mapúa's first Gene-IUS Debate
Last June 4, the Association of Biological Engineers of Mapúa (BioLOGIC), from Mapúa University, hosted the 1st Gene-IUS Debate: Codex de Bioethicae under the CBMES Week 2026. In total, the event brought together eight teams of student debaters who engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas centered on the ethical boundaries of biotechnology.
The event was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, namely Dr. Kim Hazel Arafiles, Atty. Enrico Joseph Aguinaldo, and Engr. Heherson Cabrera, whose expertise ensured a fair, insightful, and high-level assessment of each debate.
At the conclusion of the event, the championship title, along with the ₱10,000 cash prize and gift packages, was awarded to the Triple School Alliance (TSA) composed of Miguel V. Fernandez, Noelani Yvonne Wao’kaminae, and Jinglehiemer Norbelmar B. Javier.

The event's success was further strengthened by its valued sponsors and partners: The Manila Bulletin, WhenInManila.com, and YMCA Makati Scholars provided media coverage and exposure; HomeRoom Co-Working and Study Lounge, Cabrera Scientific, and MingSing PH provided prizes for the winners; while the CBMES Student Council served as a partner in bringing the event to life.
Beyond the debates, the event carried a deeper purpose. In place of a registration fee, BioLOGIC organized an optional donation drive in support of Bahay Aruga, a halfway house dedicated to children battling cancer. This initiative highlighted the organization’s commitment to ensuring that scientific endeavors are grounded not only in innovation but also in compassion and social responsibility.
