The award was presented during the DENR Good Stories Awarding ceremony, which recognized Quezon City’s sustained efforts in waste management, conservation, and climate action programs.
The DENR said the award highlights positive examples of environmental governance that may be replicated by other local government units.
The agency cited the city’s key environmental initiatives, including its ban on single-use plastics and the Trash to Cashback Program, which allows residents to exchange recyclable waste for points.
According to the DENR, these programs have strengthened Quezon City’s waste management system while supporting efforts toward a circular economy.
Belmonte thanked the DENR for the recognition and reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to further strengthen its environmental programs amid the challenges of climate change.
“Asahan niyo pong patuloy ang pagsulong natin ng mga proyekto upang masolusyunan ang climate crisis na ating nararanasan (Rest assured that we will continue to pursue projects that will help address the climate crisis we are facing,” Belmonte said),” Belmonte said.
She added that the recognition serves as motivation for the local government to continue implementing concrete environmental solutions.
