Makati distributes P5,000 cash aid to Makati solo parents
Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay
The Makati City government on Wednesday, June 17, began distributing the first tranche of the Solo Parent Subsidy, with P5,000 credited directly to the verified GCash accounts of 2,584 registered solo parents.
The beneficiaries comprise the initial batch of recipients whose applications were approved up to April 30
The local government added that those who applied from May 1 to June 30 will make up the second batch, which will receive the benefit in August.
Under City Ordinance No. 2025-A-026, or the “Makati City Solo Parents Empowerment Program,” the cash incentive is part of an annual P10,000 benefit disbursed in two equal tranches. The first is released on or before July 1, while the second is released on or before December 1 each year.
Mayor Nancy Binay underscored that the program is fully aligned with the provisions of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (R.A. No. 11861), solidifying the city's long-standing tradition of progressive and inclusive social welfare.
The subsidy is intended to ease the financial burden on solo parents in the city and support them in meeting the needs of their families.
“Solo parents carry a weight that most people do not fully see. They raise their children, manage their households, and hold their families together, often with very little support. This subsidy is our way of telling every solo parent in Makati: we see you, and this city has your back,” Binay said.
Aside from financial assistance, the ordinance also grants solo parents and their dependents priority access to livelihood and skills training, educational aid, healthcare services, PhilHealth coverage, psychosocial counseling, employment and work re-entry programs, as well as housing support.
“This program is not just about the cash; it is about giving solo parents a real chance to get ahead. We want them to have access to jobs, to training, to healthcare, and to a future where they and their children can thrive. The City of Makati will continue to build programs that reflect our commitment to inclusive and compassionate governance,” the mayor added.
In addition, a monthly cash subsidy of P1,000 is also being provided to 1,700 solo parents who are certified Makati residents earning minimum wage and below, and are not recipients of any other regular government cash assistance program.
To receive the subsidy, solo parents must have a valid Solo Parent identification card issued by the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD) and ensure that their GCash account is fully verified.
“Solo parents who registered before June 1 are entitled to both the midyear and year-end incentives, while those who registered between June 1 and November 1 are eligible only for the year-end tranche," the LGU said.
Solo parents who have concerns or need assistance with their subsidy may contact the Makati Social Welfare Department at 8870-1651 or 8870-1239.
