A 71-year-old woman died after being run over by a dump truck while crossing a pedestrian lane along Commonwealth Avenue corner Soliven Street in Quezon City on Monday afternoon, June 15.
CCTV footage captured the victim crossing when the dump truck entered the lane and hit her, but the driver failed to notice immediately.
She was dragged under the vehicle’s wheels and was declared dead at the scene by responders.
The driver, who initially thought the truck had passed over a rough portion of the road, explained that he did not see the pedestrian due to a blind spot. He added that a traffic enforcer had allowed him to proceed slowly at the time.
Police Capt. Paul Norman Lagural, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 5 deputy chief, reminded motorists to remain vigilant, especially at pedestrian lanes.
The driver later apologized to the victim’s family, stating he would accept any penalty.
He is now in QCPD custody and faces a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
