The body of Divine Adili, who tragically died alongside Rene Baterbonia in a drowning incident in Dipaculao, Aurora last week, is finally returning to his home in Nigeria, the Ateneo de Manila University announced Wednesday, June 17.
After moving from the campus to Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City where the wake concluded last Wednesday, Adili is set for a final send-off mass before he will be flown back to Nigeria upon the request of his loved ones.
“In accordance with the wishes of the Adili family, the public wake for Mr Chukwuemeka Divine Adili will finish by tonight, in preparation for his repatriation to Nigeria. A final send-off mass will be arranged by Ateneo and scheduled shortly after his journey back home begins. Details to follow,” Ateneo wrote in its statement.
“Eternal rest grant unto Divine, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace,” it added.
A few days ago, Divine’s parents Elias and Ifeoma, both devastated, requested for an autopsy through the Nigeria Embassy as they continue to seek justice for the untimely passing of their son.
Meanwhile, Baterbonia, 18, was already carried back to Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, where he received a hero’s welcome from the locals. His burial is scheduled on June 24.
