Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday, June 18 reiterated that the enforcement of police operations and arrest warrants were not part of is mandate as a legislator.
Go made the remark following reports that an alleged warrant has been issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection to the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
“Ipinagpapasa Diyos ko na lamang po ang lahat. Buong buhay ko, wala po akong nilabag na anumang batas ng tao o batas ng Diyos (I have surrendered to God everything. All my life, I have never broken any law made by men and by God),” Go said in a statement.
“Police matters have never been part of my mandate. I hope and pray na hindi mapupulitika ang issue hinggil sa sinasabing ICC warrant daw laban sa akin (that the alleged ICC’s warrant against me won’t be politicized),” the senator added.
“Umasa po kayo na patuloy lang ako sa aking pagseserbisyo, dahil 'yan ang kailangan ngayon ng ating kapwa Pilipino. Hindi ko sasayangin ang tiwalang ibinigay sa akin ng 27 milyong Pilipino (Please count on me to continue serving the public, because that is what our fellow Filipinos need right now. I will not waste the trust that 27 million Filipinos have placed in me),” he said.
Go’s statement came after Davao 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte claimed of having information from a “highly reliable source” that alleged warrants were already issued against the senator and two former police officers.
But in a statement on Thursday, June 18, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said they have not received any official “communication documentation or directive” from any government agency regarding the alleged ICC warrants.
“We rely on formal processes and verified information, not speculation or social media posts,” Nartatez had said.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla also said he has not any communication from the ICC about a warrant. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag echoed the same statement.
Late last month, the ICC confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued against Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who was a complainant in the ICC case, earlier said the international tribunal is also set to issue an arrest warrant against Go, who is tagged as a co-conspirator in former president Rodrigo Duterte’s case of crimes against humanity.
