1 dead, 6 hurt as truck plunges into ravine in Ilocos Sur

SAN EMILIO, Ilocos Sur – A passenger was killed and six others, including the driver, were injured after their truck plunged into a 40-meter-deep ravine in Sitio Lidaoan, Barangay Matibuey here on Wednesday morning, June 17.
The San Emilio Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the 50-year-old driver from Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur reportedly lost control of the steering wheel while negotiating a descending portion of the road. The vehicle hit a roadside wall before plunging into the ravine.
The driver sustained abrasions while his passengers suffered multiple injuries. A passenger was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The truck sustained heavy damage with cost of repair yet to be determined.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
