Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), directed all chiefs of police to strengthen coordination with school authorities to ensure that school zones remain completely safe for students following the stabbing incident inside a school in Cavite.
Nartatez said he already tasked the Cavite Provincial Police Office to conduct a thorough investigation to maintain public safety and ensure that educational facilities remain completely secure environments for Filipino learners.
The stabbing incident left seven elementary students injured inside a private school in General Trias City on Tuesday, June 16. The victims sustained severe wounds but have since been in stable condition.
According to the police, a 14-year-old female Grade 8 student walked into a Grade 5 classroom and attacked the younger pupils with a kitchen knife.
Teachers were allegedly attending a meeting at the time of the incident, leaving the classroom temporarily unattended.
The attack disrupted the opening week of classes for private schools, which resumed just days prior under initial police deployment plans.
Violence inside educational institutions is unacceptable, and we will work closely with school authorities and local government officials to prevent similar incidents from happening again," said Nartatez.
The 14-year-old offender was immediately turned over to local social welfare officials for proper medical and psychological evaluation. Investigators are still looking into how the weapon passed through the school gates undetected.
