In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 17, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippines supports the “peace deal” forged between the US and Iran following mediation efforts led by Pakistan and other regional partners.
“The Philippines welcomes the ‘peace deal’ reached between the US and Iran following mediation efforts by Pakistan and other regional actors,” the DFA said.
The DFA also commended the countries that played a key role in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“We commend the constructive role played by Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other partners in advancing dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” the DFA added.
Highlighting the devastating human and economic costs of the conflict, the DFA noted that it had claimed lives, damaged civilian infrastructure, and disrupted the global economy.
“The conflict has exacted an economic and humanitarian toll, resulting in the loss of lives, damage to civilian infrastructure, and disruptions to the global economy,” the DFA said.
The Philippines, through the DFA, also expressed hope that the agreement would serve as a foundation for lasting peace in the region.
“We hope that this agreement will finally lead to the permanent cessation of hostilities and contribute to a just and durable peace,” the DFA said.
The DFA’s statement underscores the Philippines’ support for diplomatic solutions and peaceful dialogue in resolving international conflicts, while highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation in maintaining regional and global stability.
