NDRRMC: Around 20,000 people still in evacuation centers. Mindanao quake death toll now 68

Around 20,000 people are still staying in evacuation centers more than a week after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook Sarangani and nearby provinces in Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday, June 17.
Based on the latest NDRRMC data, the displaced individuals were part of the more than 4,400 families still staying in 45 evacuation centers in various parts of Sarangani and nearby areas.
A total of 13,652 houses were totally destroyed while more than 60,000 houses were partially damaged as a result of the strong tremor.
The death toll went up to 68 and local authorities said they are still conducting search and retrieval operations for 33 more people in the missing list.
Aside from damaged houses, several bridges and roads were damaged during the quake. Multiple landslides were also recorded across the southern part of Mindanao, several communities in the town of Glan were even isolated.
More than P170 million were already downloaded to the affected residents and local government units as form of assistance.
The Department of Budget and Management earlier released around P362 million as initial fund for the rehabilitation and rebuilding of damaged infrastructure.
Around P1.29 billion worth of infrastructure were damaged while the quake left around P30 million damage in agriculture in Davao provinces.
On the other hand, a total of 14 towns in Davao Occidental, Sarangani and South Cotabato declared state of calamity.
