Mayor Cayetano to Taguig City University grads: Don't forget your institutions
Mayor Lani Cayetano congratulated the 1,096 graduates of Taguig City University (TCU), a city-funded school, and reminded them to honor the institutions that supported their journey.
“May God continue to guide you in every decision you make and every path you take. Wherever fate takes you, please don’t forget that the City of Taguig and Taguig City University have invested, trusted, and will continue to pray for your success,” said Cayetano, chairperson of the TCU Board of Regents, during the school's 20th Commencement Exercises on June 16 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
A total of 989 undergraduate students and 107 graduate school students received their diplomas during the graduation rites.
They were from the College of Arts and Sciences, Institute of Social Work, College of Innovative Learning and Teaching, College of Criminal Justice, College of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Public Policy and Governance, College of Information and Communication Technology, College of Business Management, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Graduate School.
Commencement speaker Dr. Karol Mark Yee, executive director of the Second Congressional Commission on Education, told graduates they are the country’s new hope.
“This milestone did not come easily. Each diploma that will be handed out this morning represents years of effort, of sacrifice, of perseverance. Dear graduates, institutions are measured not by structures that are built but by the lives they shape. And the most important achievement of TCU is not found in its facilities, it is you-- graduates, who today are now part of the 2 out of 10 Filipinos who have college diplomas, and who will come up to the stage today to finish. Taguig City University Class of 2026, kayo ang bagong pag-asa. Umasa po tayong gumawa, magpanday ng isang bukas para sa bawat batang Pilipino (you are the new hope. Let us hope to create, to forge a tomorrow for every young Filipino),” he said.
In his valedictory address, Miakee Josh Barra, Bachelor of Secondary Education graduate and magna cum laude awardee, said, “You don’t need a superpower or a global breakthrough to be extraordinary. The resilience, the quiet sacrifices, and the sheer grit it took for every single one of you today to sit in these seats, this is its own kind of achievement.”
During the 20th Commencement Exercises-Recognition and Awarding Ceremony on June 11, TCU honored 186 awardees consisting of 30 magna cum laude graduates, 127 cum laude graduates, 17 Leadership Award recipients, 10 Outstanding Athletes of the Year, and two Artists of the Year.
