Top officials of the House of Representatives have welcomed on Wednesday morning, June 17 the formal election of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as Senate President, with the ranking solons expressing faith in the latter's steady hand as leader.
House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III congratulated Gatchalian and declared that Congress will continue to advance measures that promote economic growth, strengthen public services, and improve the lives of Filipinos.
“The House of Representatives congratulates Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on his formal election as Senate President,” said the Speaker from Isabela's 6th district.
Dy said Gatchalian assumes the Senate leadership at a crucial period as Congress continues to perform its constitutional mandate and address issues of national importance.
“This development comes at an important time as both houses of Congress continue to carry out their constitutional responsibilities and act on issues that have a direct impact on the lives of Filipinos,” he said.
Marcos, who represents Ilocos Norte's 1st district, says the "level-headed" Gatchalian is exactly what the country needs at the helm over in the Senate.
"On behalf of the House we would like to congratulate Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian. We look forward to working with him. I have worked with him during my time as a congressman and how level-headed he can be."
"So I think thats exactly what this current political climate needs especially there in the Senate just the need for us to really get back to work," the presidential son added.
Dy reiterated the House’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with the Senate in advancing priority legislation and pursuing reforms that respond to the needs of the public.
“The House remains committed to working with the Senate in advancing priority legislation, strengthening the economy, and delivering meaningful reforms that benefit our people,” he said.
He noted that cooperation between the two chambers has been instrumental in advancing key legislative measures aimed at expanding economic opportunities, improving access to education and healthcare, and strengthening social protection programs.
“Ang mahalaga ay manatiling nakatuon ang Kongreso sa mga panukalang makatutulong sa ating mga kababayan. Kapag nagtutulungan ang dalawang kapulungan, mas mabilis nating naihahatid ang mga repormang kailangan ng sambayanan," he said.
(What matters is that Congress remains focused on measures that will help our people. When both chambers work together, we can deliver the reforms needed by the nation more quickly.)
