Alex Eala hopes to regain her bearings when she clashes with veteran Donna Vekic at the start of the Berlin Open 2026 in Germany on Wednesday afternoon, June 17.
Match is at 5 p.m. (Philippine time) at the Steffi Graf Stadium with the 21-year-old Eala seeking to rediscover her form after a demanding two-week stretch on the tour.
The Filipina ace crashed out in the second round of the HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club in Great Britain last week, just after her title-winning run at the Birmingham Classic two weeks ago.
Incidentally, the 29-year-old Vekic is coming off a championship win at Queen’s Club three days back, having beaten former Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu for the title.
This would be the second time that Eala and Vekic are facing each other. Last January, the world No. 34 prevailed in three sets in the Round of 32 at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
A victory for Eala would set her up with a showdown with world No.2 and 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, who secured an opening-round bye.
