Beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program may now use DSWD-issued guarantee letters (GLs) to purchase maintenance medicines in 238 Generika Drugstores nationwide.
DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said on Wednesday, June 17, that the arrangement would help clients access their prescribed medicines through participating pharmacies.
A guarantee letter is a document issued by the DSWD to qualified beneficiaries and presented to service providers as assurance of payment for approved assistance, including medicines.
According to the DSWD, the medicines that may be obtained using the guarantee letters are those under Generika Drugstore's Actimed Generics line, which includes a range of over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
The agency said clients can identify participating branches by looking for signs stating, “DSWD Guarantee Letter is accepted here.”
Dumlao also said the department is working to expand the number of pharmacies accepting DSWD-issued guarantee letters.
“Bukod po sa Generika Drugstores, patuloy ang DSWD na nakikipag-ugnayan sa iba pang mga pharmaceutical companies para mas marami pang mga Pilipino ang matulungan ng ating pamahalaan na matugunan ang kanilang mga medical requirements (Beyond Generika Drugstores, the DSWD continues to coordinate with other pharmaceutical companies so that more Filipinos can receive assistance from the government in meeting their medical requirements),” she said.
Dumlao said that clients may contact or visit the nearest DSWD Field Office for the complete list of participating Generika Drugstores.
DSWD’s AICS program serves as a social safety net that provides assistance for medical, funeral, transportation, food, and other emergency needs, subject to assessment by the agency’s social workers.
