Bacolod tricycle driver fined, suspended for reckless driving
BACOLOD CITY – A tricycle driver here has been fined and suspended by the Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) due to reckless driving that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in April.
In a report on Wednesday, the agency said the resolution was received by the respondent at his residence in Barangay Pahanocoy on June 16.
The tricycle driver has been “found administratively liable for reckless driving in connection with a fatal road crash in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City,” it stated.
Based on the investigation, the respondent’s liability has been established after the tricycle he was operating hit a pedestrian and caused the latter's death.
He was fined P2,000.
Moreover, the LTO-NIR Intelligence and Investigation Unit took possession of his driver's license, which has been suspended for 90 days.
“The LTO-NIR remains steadfast in ensuring that traffic laws are enforced and that motorists are held accountable for violations that endanger public safety,” the agency said.
Based on the police report, the 69-year-old female pedestrian was crossing the road along Bangga Tomaro when the tricycle manned by the 64-year-old driver hit her on the morning of April 13.
The elderly woman was brought to a nearby hospital, where she passed away on the same day. (PNA)
