Tubig for Tomorrow expands mission to bring safe water access to public schools
Tubig for Tomorrow (T4T), a youth -led initiative founded by International School Manila student Jacob (Jet) Coyiuto Tay, continues to expand its mission of improving access to clean and safe drinking water while promoting sustainable water management solutions in public schools across the Philippines.
Most recently, T4T successfully organized a fundraising movie premiere that brought together students, families, and advocates in support of the organization’s growing impact. The Tubig for Tomorrow Movie Premiere was spearheaded by International School Manila students Jacob Tay, Ti Chung, Maia Gamboa, Olivia Zhang, Fernando Padilla, Lex Chung, and Kei Kobayashi. The event featured a special screening of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, drawing strong support from the ISM community and supporters of the advocacy.
Through the generosity of attendees and sponsors, the event raised Php 280,000, funds that will help expand access to clean and safe drinking water for underserved communities and public schools.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of a sample Tubig for Tomorrow water fountain equipped with an Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring device. Demonstrated by Fernando Padilla and Olivia Zhang, the technology showcased how real-time monitoring can improve water management, maintenance efficiency, and service delivery, ensuring that water stations remain functional and accessible to students.
During the program, Jacob Tay and co-founder Maia Gamboa spoke about the challenges faced by communities with limited access to potable water and shared Tubig for Tomorrow’s accomplishments in installing IoT-enabled water fountains in schools. They also reaffirmed the team’s commitment to expanding these initiatives through continued fundraising, innovation, and community engagement.
The event additionally served as a platform to introduce RAINWISE (Resilient Autonomous Infrastructure for Networked Water Intelligence & Sustainable Efficiency), Tubig for Tomorrow’s newest initiative, focused on advancing water sustainability in public schools.
Building on the momentum of the movie premiere, Tubig for Tomorrow partnered with the National Book Store Foundation and Anvil Publishing to donate books to Nangka School in Marikina City, helping provide students with additional educational resources as they begin the new school year.
During their visit to Nangka School, the Tubig for Tomorrow team officially launched the RAINWISE program. Working closely with school personnel, students repaired and upgraded the school’s existing rainwater harvesting system to improve its functionality and long-term sustainability. The collected rainwater will be used for flushing toilets, maintaining gardens, and supporting the school’s general cleaning needs, helping reduce water consumption while promoting responsible resource management.
The launch of RAINWISE marks an important milestone in Tubig for Tomorrow’s evolution—from providing access to safe drinking water through smart water fountains to developing broader water sustainability solutions that address long-term environmental challenges within school communities.
“Access to clean water is fundamental to student health, learning, and opportunity,” said Jacob Tay, founder of Tubig for Tomorrow. “Through innovation, partnerships, and community involvement, we hope to create sustainable solutions that not only address immediate needs but also empower schools to better manage their water resources for years to come.”
These initiatives not only generated critical support for future projects but also raised awareness about water accessibility, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability. By engaging students, families, educators, and community partners, Tubig for Tomorrow continues to inspire collective action toward creating healthier, more sustainable learning environments for students across the Philippines.
