More than just toys

ToyCon Nexus x Poplife Festival 2026 is the highly anticipated annual gathering of toy collectors around the country, with every booth and stall showcasing figures, dolls, cards, and every other toy that one may fathom. This event garners attention not only from local residents but also from international audiences.
Starting out small, ToyCon began as a group of friends who wanted to hold a gathering with fellow collectors for trading collectibles in 2002. Over the years, the community grew, bringing together all the fandoms into one huge community, from card games, comics, anime, toys, artworks, etc., all coming together in a unified nexus to bring you this excitement-packed venue every year.
The main highlights of the event included the convention’s toy collection gallery, which featured exhibits from different local collector groups representing various genres of toys and media.

The event also showcased stage performances, special presentations, and hosted programs featuring well-established artists and personalities. One of the notable guests was Amano Yoshitaka, the renowned Japanese artist and visual designer, who made his first-ever appearance in the Philippines at ToyCon Nexus x Poplife Festival Manila 2026.
These were just some of the many attractions and special appearances that made the event memorable.
June 12, 2026, was the first day of the convention. It was less crowded than the days to come as it was Independence Day. Still, the event was heavily populated as introductions of the main stage program cast were announced, giving exposure to cosplayers, performers, and groups. Activities were held on site, paving the way for a remarkable kick-off for the 2026 ToyCon.
“I love how very exciting it is, and the fans and the community are really supportive,” an excerpt from Tsukino Moa, one of the members of Kamen Joshi, describing her enjoyment of Philippine fanbases.
The second day marked the heaviest crowd density and the inflow of complaints due to the venue being allegedly "too packed." Though, the common sentiment was actually quite positive when inside the venue itself.
It was during this day that the events were reaching their climax, with sales and performances gathering more attention compared to the previous day. This marked the final sales rush, accompanied by a spectacular closing, ending the events and activities of the main stage.
The essence of ToyCon, as expressed by both frequent goers and booth owners, lies in the enjoyment of being part of a community. After taking stock of the experiences through interviews with sellers, we discovered that commitment to booths is made with building connections in mind, as opposed to mainly making a profit.
Similarly, entrants, both new and old, have noted that scavenging for discounted goods is only one part of what makes the convention worthwhile. Convention-goers were seen off to the side, posing, talking, and overall bonding with kindred spirits, with no distinction other than their shared fandom.
That same passion is a common sentiment even among staff, as shown in a backstage interview with Azrael Coladilla, content and media manager, stating: “ToyCon tries its best every year, and will continue to improve in the following years.”
It’s easy to forget that ToyCon began as a humble stall before it became the one-stop shop it is today. No matter the size of the platform, it’s clear to see that niche hobbies have always had the potential to stand on their own as a collective of cultural exchange from every walk of life.
From the outside looking in, some could imagine that others are dragged into obsessive or immature circles. However, when you walk through those doors, you wouldn’t know it. Whether it is art, toys, or media, every corner breathes life.
Hate it or love it, it has become an inseparable icon for fan-based social gatherings in the Philippine context.
Regardless of whether you’re there or not, the “next time” the event rolls around, the community always has its arm extended. Don’t be a stranger!
