A 51-year-old man missing for nearly a year has been reunited with his mother after Manila officials traced him, following Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s response to a TikTok appeal from the family.
According to the local government, the mayor ordered concerned offices to verify the case after seeing online posts from the child’s mother seeking help in finding her son.

The search led authorities to Boystown, where the man had been staying safely under government care all along.
"Kasi takas po siya nang takas pag natutulog po kami eh. Hindi ko naman po siya pinapabayaan kaya lang nakakalabas po siya pag tulog kami (Because he keeps running away whenever we’re asleep. I’m not neglecting him, but he manages to get out of the house while we’re sleeping)," the mother, Carmen Bumanglang, said.
Domagoso said the case underscores the city’s continuing efforts to assist vulnerable individuals wandering on the streets.
He explained that personnel from the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) regularly interview individuals sleeping in public areas to determine whether they have families or relatives who can take them home.
Those who cannot immediately be reunited with relatives are brought to city-run facilities, where they are provided temporary shelter, meals, security, and access to medical care while authorities work to determine their circumstances.
The mayor also directed the city’s social welfare office to facilitate the man's registration for a Persons with Disability (PWD) identification card to help him access government services and support.
The man's mother said their family lives in a cramped home and revealed that her son has a tendency to leave the house unnoticed while the family is asleep.
She said he would often wander around their community and search through garbage, making it difficult to keep track of him despite their efforts.
"Nag-iikot tapos naghuhukay ng mga basura (He wanders around and rummages through garbage)," she said.
Overcome with emotion during the reunion, the mother thanked the mayor and city personnel, saying she had spent the past year searching for her son without success.
"Masayang masaya po ako. Kaya maraming-maraming salamat po (I am very happy. Thank you very much, mayor)."
She added that she plans to seek professional treatment for her son at a mental health facility in Mandaluyong to help address his condition and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Expressing relief after the reunion, the mother said she was grateful to finally have her son back after months of uncertainty and searching.
