A robbery suspect was injured after falling from the roof of an old warehouse following a nearly one-hour chase with police officers he had threatened with a fake gun in Barangay Malanday, Valenzuela City, on Sunday, June 14.
The suspect, identified only as alias “Rolly,” was pursued after being seen leaving an electronic service center carrying a cellphone, tablet, and camera bag.
Police Colonel Joseph Talento, Valenzuela City Police Station chief, said Sub-Station 6 operatives Police Staff Sgt. Raynard Zaldivar and Pat. Jhon Paul Adap were patrolling along MacArthur Highway when they spotted the suspect exiting the establishment.
When approached, Rolly allegedly pulled out an object resembling a firearm and pointed it at the officers.
Believing the weapon to be real, the policemen briefly hesitated, allowing the suspect to escape toward Gaanan Street.
A hot pursuit operation was immediately launched, with officers chasing him through the area.
After nearly an hour, the suspect climbed onto the roof of an old warehouse in a desperate attempt to evade capture.
His escape failed when he jumped and landed feet first, sustaining injuries on his face and other parts of his body.
Police caught up with him shortly after and recovered a replica revolver along with the items allegedly stolen from the electronic service center.
Investigators said the suspect entered the establishment by destroying the accordion hinge where the padlock was attached.
Authorities later confirmed through the Investigative Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) system that Rolly was already facing a bench warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 12 in Malolos City, Bulacan, for a robbery case with a P100,000 bail.
The suspect was taken to Valenzuela Medical Center for treatment and remains under police custody.
He is facing charges of robbery with force upon things under Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
