TARLAC CITY -- Local standouts Sean Ramos and Keanu Jahns are looking to capitalize on their familiarity with the Luisita Golf and Country Club when they compete in the BingoPlus Philippine ADT Open, which tees off on Wednesday, June 17.
Ramos said he knows the course well, having played it countless times, including during his stint with the national team as an amateur, and hopes that experience will work in his favor against a strong field in the tournament.
“The course has never changed ever since then. The conditions are really good now. I think they’re the best I’ve seen,” Ramos said.
“So I’m just going to play it the same way as I did before and then hopefully it works,” he added.
Ranked 10th in the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit, Ramos seeks a breakthrough this year after finishing tied for second in the ADT Players Championship in Malaysia last month.
Jahns is also expected to benefit from his familiarity with the Luisita layout as he looks to contend in the tournament.
“I always enjoy coming back here… They did add a few tee boxers, so the course is a little bit longer from the last time I was here,” said Jahns.
“And the greens are a little tricky this year, so hopefully I can read the greens pretty well and put up a good result,” he added.
Apart from the $100,000 (around P6.1 million) total prize pot at stake in the 72-hole tournament, the event also offers berths to the prestigious BingoPlus Philippine Open on the International Series later this year for the Top 2 Filipino finishers.
“Our goal is to assist in promoting the country’s golf industry by bringing in top-tier golf sponsorships. Through these efforts, BingoPlus is contributing to the broader growth of sports in the country,” said Jasper Vicencio, President of AB Leisure Exponent Inc.
“By supporting local and international tournaments, we help create opportunities for Filipino golfers to showcase their talent, gain international recognition, and achieve their career goals,” he added.
Ken Kudo, general manager of the ADT, echoed the sentiment as the tournament draws 132 players that include 82 ADT professionals, 30 National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) players, six national team members and 14 invitees
“What you see here, what currently isn’t necessarily a household name becomes a household name in the making, in their journey,” he said.
“And that’s what makes the Asian Development Tour so special because we get to grow together with the athletes. This is where pioneers such as BingoPlus really see the long-term vision. Not just focusing on the top of the pyramid, but also the growth of the game for the sport and also for the local talent,” he added.
