The ceremony also coincided with the celebration of more than seven decades of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany.
As a symbol of friendship and the longstanding ties between Manila and Germany, Domagoso conferred the Key to the City upon Steinmeier, an honor traditionally bestowed on distinguished guests of the Philippine capital.
The city government said the recognition reflects Manila’s warm welcome to the German leader and underscores the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.
Steinmeier is in the Philippines for an official state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and further enhancing ties between Germany and the Philippines.
