Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Schools Division Superintendent Sheryll Gayola credited the orderly start of School Year 2026–2027 to the city’s strategic deployment of police and traffic personnel, which ensured safety and order across public school campuses.
The local government mobilized key city departments to guarantee a safe, organized, and orderly return to classes for tens of thousands of public school students, teachers, and parents.
During the 43rd City Government of Manila Directional Meeting on Tuesday, June 16, school officials said collaborative efforts effectively mitigated traffic congestion and maintained strict security protocols, marking a smooth transition into the new academic year without any major security or logistical hitches.
The Manila local government executed a comprehensive security and traffic management plan to handle the heavy influx of individuals returning to academic institutions.
Domagoso directed the Manila Police District (MPD) and the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) to maintain high visibility in and around all public school campuses.
Traffic enforcers managed the high volume of vehicles and pedestrians during peak morning and afternoon hours to prevent gridlocks in school zones.
Police officers also established secure perimeters around school gates to deter petty crimes and guarantee the peace of mind of parents and educators.
Aside from immediate security concerns, the city administration ensured long-term safety measures inside the classroom to protect the academic community from potential natural disasters.
Superintendent Gayola expressed her gratitude to the local chief executive during the management meeting for the proactive measures implemented by the city.
Domagoso directed Gayola to coordinate closely with appropriate government agencies to institutionalize regular disaster response simulations.
The directive mandates the strict implementation of monthly earthquake drills in all public schools to prepare students and personnel for emergencies, specifically targeting readiness for "The Big One."
