Anyway, during a recent huddle, John shared his two cents about the matter and surprisingly, he did not exactly bring the parental “third-degree grilling” energy some might expect.

“To be honest, I met him before. I’ve known DJ, Daniel, for a long time now. He’s a very good kid. A kind person, humble, respectful. I have nothing bad to say about him,” John said.

Yup. No dramatic background check, no suspicious squinting, no “I will be watching you” warning speech. Just a quick if also too simple fatherly stamp of approval.

“For me, it’s all about the personality and the character of a person. I saw DJ from how he started up to now. He is a good young man,” he added.

He also made it clear that he is not the type to play scriptwriter in his daughter’s love life.

“If he has something with my daughter, then that’s up to them. I wish them well. I wish them happiness,” he said.

As a father, John emphasized that his role is not to steer the wheel of Kaila’s personal life, but to make sure she does not drive blind.

“That’s really how it is,” he said.

He also shared his non-negotiables for Kaila’s future partner:

“He should be a godly person. Someone who fears God. Someone who respects his family, especially his parents.” 

“And of course, someone who will truly make her happy. Because if my daughter is happy, I am happy for her,” he added.

John’s approval of Daniel was received with mixed reaction on social media.

Some fans were quick to revive old narratives about Daniel, with a few branding him a “walking red flag,” despite John’s very “no complaints, no receipts, no problems” verdict of “a very good kid.”

Others, in a twist worthy of a teleserye side plot, dragged John’s own past reputation into the conversation.

A separate group opted for the diplomatic route, reminding everyone that Kaila is not a group project and does not need a comment section advisory board for her personal choices.
