The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said the van was traveling along Sampaguita Street, C6 Road from Taguig City toward Tapayan Bridge.
Upon nearing a junk shop along Sampaguita Street, the van suddenly accelerated after the 42‑year‑old driver allegedly fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to pass over a gutter and strike the victims who were in the area at the time.
Authorities said the fatalities were aged 20, 24, and 40, while the injured, aged 56 and 26, sustained minor and serious physical injuries.
The driver is now under police custody and may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.
