Taiwan is best known globally as a technology powerhouse, home to some of the world's most advanced semiconductor and electronics industries. Earlier this month, COMPUTEX 2026 gathered more than 1,500 exhibitors and 111,300 professional buyers and visitors from 152 countries, further cementing Taiwan's position as one of the region's leading technology hubs. But beyond its thriving tech sector lies a destination that seamlessly blends innovation with culture, nature, and unforgettable travel experiences.
This was the message behind the opening of the Taiwan Travel Fair 2026 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City last Friday, where the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) officially kicked off a three-day event aimed at bringing Taiwan's diverse attractions closer to Filipino travelers.
Carrying the tourism campaign "Taiwan – Waves of Wonder," the fair highlights not only Taiwan's rich cultural heritage and culinary scene but also the modern conveniences and technological advancements that make traveling around the island easier than ever.
The opening ceremony was led by Ms. Cindy Chen, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Information Center in Manila and Bangkok under the Taiwan Tourism Administration. She was joined by Minister Dustin Yang, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO), along with tourism stakeholders, travel industry partners, media representatives, and invited guests.
"The Philippines continues to be one of Taiwan's most important tourism markets in Southeast Asia. Through the Taiwan Travel Fair, we hope to inspire more Filipino travelers to discover Taiwan's unique blend of culture, nature, food, innovation, and hospitality," said Chen during her opening remarks.

A smart destination for modern travelers
As travel becomes increasingly digital, Taiwan has positioned itself as one of Asia's most traveler-friendly destinations through its efficient transportation systems, extensive connectivity, and technology-driven public services.
From high-speed rail networks that connect major cities in just a matter of hours to highly integrated metro systems and digital payment solutions, Taiwan offers a level of convenience that appeals to today's tech-savvy travelers.
Visitors can navigate cities using real-time transit applications, access widespread public Wi-Fi services, and enjoy cashless transactions across numerous establishments, making travel planning and exploration more seamless.
For Filipino tourists accustomed to mobile-first lifestyles, Taiwan's smart infrastructure helps eliminate many of the common challenges associated with overseas travel.
Beyond technology: culture, food, and adventure
While Taiwan's innovation ecosystem continues to attract global attention, the island remains equally celebrated for its cultural and natural attractions.
The fair showcased Taiwan's iconic night markets, scenic mountain ranges, historic temples, cycling routes, hot springs, and vibrant city life. Interactive exhibits allowed visitors to learn more about destinations ranging from the bustling streets of Taipei to the picturesque landscapes found throughout the country's eastern and central regions.

Travel agencies and airline partners also offered exclusive promotions throughout the event, giving attendees opportunities to plan their next Taiwanese adventure.
The opening festivities featured cultural performances, including the dynamic Diabolo Walker act and an energetic Zumba presentation, reflecting the warmth and vibrancy that characterize Taiwan's tourism offerings.
A recognition ceremony was likewise held to honor tourism and event partners whose continued support has helped promote Taiwan as a preferred destination among Filipino travelers.
Strengthening tourism through innovation
The Taiwan Travel Fair served not only as a consumer-focused event but also as a platform for strengthening tourism cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines.
As digital technologies continue to reshape the travel industry, partnerships among tourism stakeholders, airlines, travel agencies, and technology providers are becoming increasingly important in delivering better experiences for travelers.
Taiwan's combination of innovation, accessibility, and diverse attractions positions it as a compelling destination for Filipinos seeking an international getaway that offers both convenience and discovery.
Following the opening ceremony, guests participated in a media interview session and a VIP tour of the exhibition area, where they explored firsthand the travel experiences, cultural attractions, and tourism innovations that Taiwan has to offer.
The Taiwan Travel Fair 2026 ran from June 12 to 14, 2026, at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City and was open to the public.
