Police: Money triggered college student to poison high school teacher
BACOLOD CITY – An argument over money triggered a college student to allegedly poison a public high school teacher to death in his residence in Barangay Alijis here on June 12.
Police Capt. Jay-r Reyes, head of Police Station 7, said the 24-year-old suspect, who was initially reported as a senior high school student, allegedly tried to borrow money from the 36-year-old victim during a drinking session but the request led to an argument.
The suspect choked the victim by wrapping his neck around his arms and forced him to drink a strong chemical which authorities suspect was muriatic acid.
Reyes added the victim sustained bruises that could be possible burns from the chemical.
The victim was found half-naked and lifeless on the floor when police responded to a reported commotion.
Police have yet to establish if the victim was mauled before he was poisoned pending autopsy result.
Reyes said the suspect was arrested in the kitchen where he was hiding after multiple escape attempts through a ceiling.
The teacher and student are not affiliated with the same school.
The suspect said it was his sixth visit to the victim’s house.
A murder complaint was filed on Monday, June 15, against the suspect, who knew the victim for about a year.
