Lee Jun-young confirms military enlistment through heartfelt letter to fans
Korean actor Lee Jun-young has personally informed fans about his upcoming military enlistment through a heartfelt handwritten letter.
The 29-year-old actor, who is currently starring in the series "Reborn Rookie," is known for his roles in "May I Help You?," "The Impossible Heir," "When Life Gives You Tangerines," and "Weak Hero Class 2."
In his letter, Lee revealed that he will begin his mandatory military service on July 21.
“I thought it would be better to tell you directly rather than have the news reported through an article, so I’m leaving this message. Yes, I am enlisting on July 21,” he wrote.
Lee admitted that writing the letter was not easy, saying he spent months thinking about how to share the news with fans.
“I agonized for months over where to begin this story, and finally decided to write it myself. I’m already on my 10th revision,” he said with a laugh.
The actor also reflected on how his perspective changed once his enlistment date was finalized.
“Before I knew the enlistment date, I kept thinking, ‘What’s the big deal? I’m just going.’ But now that I actually have the date, I find myself having a lot of thoughts for the first time in a while,” he shared.
He added that putting his feelings into words helped ease his mind.
“As I write this down, word by word, I feel a little lighter in my heart,” he said.
Lee reassured fans that he would return healthy and remain true to himself.
“Until the day I greet you again, I sincerely hope you all stay healthy and spend happy and meaningful times wherever you are. Thank you for always cherishing and supporting me,” he wrote.
His agency, Billions Entertainment, also confirmed his enlistment. The company requested fans to respect his privacy, noting that the time and location of his enlistment will not be disclosed.
“As the enlistment date involves a large number of soldiers and their families, the location and time of entry will be kept private,” the agency said. “No separate official ceremony will be held to prevent safety accidents caused by overcrowding. We also ask fans to refrain from visiting the site to ensure a smooth and safe enlistment process.”
Despite his temporary absence, fans can still look forward to Lee’s upcoming projects. Billions Entertainment announced that his dramas "Four Hands" and "Our Sticky Love," as well as the film "Sinner," will be released after his enlistment.
