From powerful anthems to emotionally driven performances, P-pop girl group G22 has built a reputation for celebrating strength and individuality. Now, AJ, Alfea, and Jaz are stepping into a more carefree and vibrant chapter with their newest single, “Groove On.”

In an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, the girls shared that the upbeat track is a tribute to the iconic women of the 2000s who shaped fashion, film, and music. For the trio, the song is about embracing confidence, enjoying life, and celebrating youth.

"The inspiration behind the song is the iconic women of the 2000s like Heidi Klum, Paris Hilton, and Kate Moss," Alfea said. "We wanted to create a song that feels good and makes people feel like their best self."

The Y2K-inspired music video further reinforces that message. Drawing from the era's fashion icons, party culture, paparazzi moments, and celebrity glamour, the visual perfectly captures the playful energy of the track. The group credited creative director and stylist Eldz Mejia for bringing the concept to life, while also acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the project.

The release arrives at a time when P-pop continues to gain momentum both locally and internationally. With groups like SB19 and Bini breaking barriers and reaching global audiences, G22 sees the growing attention as both inspiring and motivating.

"It's something we're really proud of," AJ said. "Our seniors are showing that it's possible for Filipinos and for P-pop groups to perform on stages like Lollapalooza and Coachella."

The group remembers a time when P-pop had yet to gain widespread recognition. Today, they see more listeners embracing original Filipino music and more opportunities opening up for artists.

"We can show the world what OPM and P-pop are," Alfea said. "There are more eyes on our country now, and we're excited to show more of what we can offer in music, visuals, and art."

Despite their growing success, life outside the spotlight remains surprisingly simple. When not performing, AJ enjoys spending time with friends, playing chess, trying sports like golf, and focusing on health and wellness. Meanwhile, Jaz enjoys watching movies in cinemas, eating out, and taking long walks around malls. Lastly, Alfea spends her day off filled with Pilates, rowing, reading books in a café, catching up with friends, and treating herself to a relaxing massage.

Their schedules no longer allow them to continue their studies, but they remain focused on personal growth and finding balance amid demanding careers. Like many young people chasing big dreams, the members admit they still experience moments of doubt. The difference is how they choose to respond.

"We all have our doubts," Jaz shared. "But we try to remember that we'll get through whatever we're feeling."

When those moments come, AJ’s method is shifting her mindset and focusing on possibilities instead of fears. But the greatest source of strength, however, comes from each other.

"We have each other," Alfea said. "One of us might be doubting herself, but we all understand because we're experiencing the same thing. We carry each other."

That bond will be put on full display as G22 prepares for a major milestone: their first solo concert, “The Eve of an Alpha” happening on July 12, 2026, at the New Frontier Theater.

The concert promises more than performances. The group describes it as an emotional journey filled with storytelling, meaningful messages, and moments that audiences can take home long after the final bow.

"It feels unreal," Alfea said. "We went from being trainees doing drills in the studio to having an album, more songs, and now a concert dedicated to us."

While the experience comes with pressure, it also brings excitement. As they continue reaching new milestones, G22 remains grateful to the fans who have stood by them every step of the way.
