MPD enforcement reflects PNP push for case-building, accountability
The Manila Police District’s (MPD) latest arrests and enforcement operations reflect the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) broader push toward case-building and accountability under Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.
In its latest accomplishment report, the MPD recorded sustained police activity across the capital, including the arrest of 13 wanted persons through the service of warrants.
Nine anti-illegal gambling operations resulted in 18 arrests, while eight loose firearms were confiscated with eight corresponding arrests.
Authorities also apprehended 1,833 violators of city ordinances, including cases involving smoking (629), traffic violations (351), obstruction (180), curfew violations (159), and drinking in public places (29), among others.
Police further conducted rescue operations assisting 285 individuals, including minors and mendicants, while emergency hotline 911 logged 19 responses.
MPD officials said the figures highlight continued efforts to maintain order through visibility, enforcement, and rapid response in Manila.
At the national level, the PNP has emphasized that law enforcement is not only measured through arrests and seizures, but also through the ability to build cases that result in convictions.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the focus of reforms is to ensure that police operations translate into lasting legal outcomes, not just operational gains.
“The goal is not only to arrest or seize contraband, but to make sure cases stand in court and lead to conviction. That is where justice is ultimately served,” Nartatez said in a statement.
This was underscored by the recent conviction of a foreign national linked to a 2024 large-scale drug operation in Batangas involving around 1.4 tons of suspected shabu worth P9.68 billion.
While the seizure drew attention due to its scale, police said the conviction demonstrates the importance of sustained investigation, proper evidence handling, and coordination with prosecutors.
The PNP said aligning local enforcement efforts, such as those of the MPD, with long-term case-building remains key to strengthening public trust and ensuring that law enforcement actions lead to lasting results.
