DPWH: More roads, bridges now accessible in quake-hit areas after 24/7 repair
At least 14 road sections and bridges that were damaged by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the southern portion of Mindanao are now passable to motorists, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Sunday, June 14.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said several road sections, bridges and hospitals are now being repaired as part of the restoration works in areas heavily damaged by the tremor on June 8.
The repaired bridges are the Sapu Masla Bridge in Glan town of Sarangani, the Bucana Bridge in Davao City, the Lampari Bridge in South Cotabato, and the Butulan Bridge in Davao Occidental.
Ten sections of the Malita-Jose Abad Santos Road in Davao Occidental and a section of the Barangay Margus Road in Glan town that were covered by landslide debris were already cleared.
On the other hand, one lane of the Glan-Taluyan Road in Sarangani is now passable while repair is ongoing on the damaged section of the road.
Other bridges and road sections under repair are the General Santos City–T’Boli–Surallah Road, General Santos City, South Cotabato; Buayan Bridge in South Cotabato; Aquino Bridge in Sarangani; Bolton Bridge 1 in Davao City; and, Davao-Sarangani Coastal Road in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.
Dizon said the Sarangani Provincial Hospital and the Dr. Jorge Royeca City Hospital, General Santos City are also undergoing repair.
The DPWH also provided new electric fans, extension cords and paortalets to the patients and their caregivers at the Glan Medicare Community Hospital in Sarangani.
Dizon said they continue to coordinate with other government agencies for the 24/7 repair of damaged government infrastructure.
