Authorities are pursuing four men who were caught on CCTV stealing a motorcycle owned by a second-year marine engineering student in Barangay Llano, Caloocan City, early Saturday, June 6.
Police said one of the suspects has already been identified, while his three companions remain at large following the incident.
CCTV footage showed the group roaming around aboard three motorcycles before later being seen pushing the victim’s parked motorcycle and fleeing the area.
The footage from Barangay 167 also showed the suspects checking the neighborhood before carrying out the theft.
The stolen motorcycle belonged to the student, who said it was his only means of transportation to school.
The victim said his mother woke up around 4 a.m. and initially thought he had already left for school, but later discovered that his motorcycle parked outside their home was already missing.
He immediately sought police assistance, prompting authorities to review CCTV recordings from nearby establishments.
Police later said they were able to identify one of the suspects through CCTV analysis, while follow-up operations led to his brief sighting in another area in North Caloocan on the same day, but he managed to evade arrest.
A complaint for violation of the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 was filed against the identified suspect, who remains at large.
Authorities continue their pursuit operations to locate the three other men involved in the theft.
Barangay officials in Llano are coordinating with police and reminding residents to secure their motorcycles, noting that the area has multiple entry and exit points that suspects may use to escape.
