RR Pogoy and TNT are not giving up just yet as they hope to force a winner-take-all Game 7 against Ginebra in their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup Finals series.
Although trailing the series 2-3 with the Kings getting the chance to win the crown in Game 6 on Sunday, June 14, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Pogoy remains confident that the Tropang 5G can bounce back and tie the series.
For one, they are in a very much familiar situation right now, having also gone through a 2-3 deficit in the Commissioner’s Cup last season also against Ginebra.
In that series, TNT forced the decider with a 87-83 win in Game 6 before claiming the crown with another 87-83 win in overtime in Game 7.
“Galing din kami sa ganito na 3-2 basta trabahuin lang namin wala namang imposible,” said Pogoy.
“Sabi ko nga unang makaapat eh so tatlo pa lag naman so may chance pa,” he added.
Pogoy, however, acknowledged that the Tropang 5G needed to make adjustments against Justin Brownlee who torched them with 54 points in Game 5.
In some stretches of the contest, Pogoy, who was the designated defender to Brownlee, seemed to be doing great in containing the Ginebra resident import but the 38-year-old reinforcement still fired 14 straight points bridging the fourth quarter and overtime periods.
“Justin is Justin talaga grabe yung ginawa ni justin may instances kasi na open shot siya eh yun yung sayang. Kung sana one on one, kaso may mali pa rin kami sa game plan kasi may open shots sya hindi sya napapagod,” said Pogoy.
It also didn’t help that TNT also had missed free throws and committed crucial turnovers late, allowing Ginebra to comeback from an 80-87 deficit in the last three minutes of regulation.
“Sobrang hirap kasi nasa amin na yung momentum nung fourth quarter. So iyon nga pag Ginebra kalaban hindi ka dapat mag relax. Ang dami rin naming turnovers missed free throws kaya nahabol,” he stressed.
