PNP opens cybercrime satellite office in Capiz

ILOILO CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has opened the first satellite office of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-6 (RACU-6) in Capiz province.
Police Major Gen. Wilson Asueta, chief of the PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group, led the inauguration in Sigma town this week.
Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño of the Police Regional Office-6 said the satellite office is meant to bring the PNP’s cybercrime service to other parts of Panay Island.
Prior to the opening of the satellite office last June 9, cyber crime victims have to go all the way to Iloilo City as RACU-6 is located inside the police regional headquarters in Camp Delgado.
“Hindi lamang ito dagdag na pasilidad. Ito ay simbolo ng ating determinasyon na gawing mas mabilis, mas accessible, at mas epektibo ang pagtugon sa cyber-related offenses (This is not just an additional facility. It is a symbol of our determination to make responding to cyber-related offenses faster, more accessible, and more effective),” said Tuaño.
The satellite office is tasked to investigate cyber scams, identity theft, cyber libel, and other online crimes.
“We want our people to know that help is available and that the PNP is continuously adapting to address emerging threats in the digital environment,” added Tuaño.
The satellite office was established with the strong support of the local government unit (LGU) of Sigma under the administration of Mayor Dante Rizal Eslabon who has been vocal against cyber crimes. Eslabon has filed cyber libel cases against radio personalities.
Also present was Police Col. Richard Adonis Habawel of RACU-6 and Police Col. Albert Tapulao of the Capiz Police Provincial Office.
