President Marcos announced that the Philippines will expand its diplomatic footprint with the opening of new embassies in Kazakhstan and Ghana, as well as a planned consulate general in Miami, Florida.
The President made the announcement during the Vin d'Honneur reception in Malacañang, saying the new diplomatic posts will help deepen the country's engagement with the international community.
“As part of our expanding diplomatic footprint, the Philippines will open new embassies in Kazakhstan and Ghana this year,” Marcos said on Independence Day, June 12.
“We are also working on establishing our new Consulate General in Miami, Florida, to serve Filipinos in the US Southeast and the Caribbean,” he added.
Marcos said the new missions will make consular services more accessible to Filipinos living and working overseas.
They will also help ensure that overseas Filipinos receive timely government assistance and protection.
The planned Consulate General in Miami is expected to serve Filipinos residing in the southeastern United States and nearby Caribbean countries.
The President said the new diplomatic posts will not only provide consular services but also help unlock new opportunities for economic cooperation.
He noted that Philippine embassies and consulates play an important role in promoting trade, investments, tourism, cultural exchanges, and political relations with host countries.
Marcos said strengthening the country's diplomatic presence abroad remains part of the administration's efforts to foster deeper and more enduring partnerships with the international community.
Building global partnerships
The President also highlighted the value of his engagements with foreign leaders in advancing Philippine interests.
Speaking before members of the diplomatic corps, Marcos said his meetings with fellow heads of state and government have helped strengthen bilateral relations across various sectors.
He added that these engagements have also fostered closer people-to-people ties and cooperation on emerging issues of mutual concern.
"My meetings with fellow leaders during my four years of administration provided an excellent opportunity to bolster our bilateral ties across many sectors, foster closer people-to-people relations, and develop closer cooperation on new and emerging issues of mutual concern, all in pursuit of shared peace, progress, and prosperity," he said.
President Marcos made the announcement during the Vin d'Honneur, an official reception traditionally hosted by the President at Malacañan on New Year's Day and Independence Day.
Among those present were Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, House Speaker Faustino Dy III, Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
The Vin d'Honneur, a French term meaning “wine of honor,” serves as a gathering of government officials and members of the diplomatic community to celebrate important national occasions and strengthen diplomatic relations.
