Kanlaon Volcano emitted an ash plume from its summit crater on Friday morning, June 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said the ash emission occurred at 8:28 a.m. and produced grayish plumes that rose about 300 meters above the crater before drifting northwest.
The event was captured by the IP camera at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City.
The agency said Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 2, or moderate unrest, indicating ongoing volcanic activity beneath the volcano that could lead to further ash emissions or short-lived explosive eruptions.
Phivolcs reiterated that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) remains strictly prohibited due to the threat of sudden volcanic hazards, including explosions, rockfalls, and ashfall.
According to the agency, it continues to closely monitor the volcano’s activity and advised communities around Kanlaon to remain vigilant and follow existing safety advisories.
Kanlaon, located on Negros Island and shared by the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, is one of the country’s most active volcanoes.
