An armed man was arrested after police discovered an unlicensed .45-caliber pistol concealed in his belt bag at a checkpoint in Las Piñas City on Thursday, June 11.
Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Ricky Neron identified the suspect as alias "Angelo," 35, an unemployed resident of Barangay Manuyo Dos. He now faces charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The arrest occurred around 10 p.m. during an Oplan Sita operation by the Tactical Motorcycle Riders Unit at the corner of J. Aguilar Avenue and Green Revolution Street in Barangay CAA.
Officers stopped Angelo for a routine inspection, and while retrieving his driver’s license from a black belt bag, they noticed a handgun concealed inside.
Unable to present any permit or legal documents, Angelo was immediately arrested.
Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol, one magazine loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, and the belt bag used to hide the firearm.
The suspect was turned over to investigators for documentation and the filing of charges.
Col. Neron emphasized that the operation highlights the importance of sustained checkpoint and anti-criminality efforts in curbing the spread of illegal firearms.
Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver C. Cinco added that the arrest is part of the district’s continuing campaign against loose firearms and criminality.
