Search, verification on for 31 missing persons as death toll from Mindanao quake rises to 47

Authorities are focusing on the search, rescue and verification of 31 people who are still on the missing list after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake triggered landslides and structure collapse in Sarangani and nearby areas in Mindanao on Monday, June 8.
On Thursday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the death toll from the quake is now at 47, and it said 13 people are still missing in Davao region and 18 in central Mindanao.
Most of the fatalities are in central Mindanao with 35 and almost all of the injured victims are also in the same region, or 647 of the 688 injured victims.
The NDDRMC reported 37 earthquake-induced landslides in central Mindanao and Davao regions while houses and some establishments collapsed as a result of the incident.
A total of 12,641 houses were damaged, a total of 2,289 of them were totally destroyed.
More than 346,000 individuals were affected by the tremor, more than 16,000 of them are still in evacuation centers.
On the other hand, over 400 structures that include health facilities, schools and bridges were also damaged.
The entire Davao Occidental already declared a state of calamity, along with three areas in South Cotabato and Sarangani, including the town of Glan where several communities were reported to have been isolated due to landslides and bridge damage.
At least 210 areas declared class suspension while more than 100 areas are still observing work suspension due to the extent of damage that include power and communication problems.
