CANDON CITY – Reigning champion Vietnam and Kazakhstan asserted their dominance once more after scoring straight-set victories against their respective rivals to stay perfect in the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup here at the Candon City Arena Thursday, June 11.
The Vietnamese, who have not dropped a single set in the tournament, put up a defensive masterclass this time after forcing the Iranians to 22 errors while delivering timely attacks – led by Thi Thanh Thuy Tran – to spoil their rivals’ final rally in the third for a 25-19, 25-20, 27-25 result.
This marked Vietnam’s fourth straight win in as many outings, while Iran slid to a 1-3 hole.
The four-peat seeking Vietnamese squad goes for a Pool B sweep when it faces fellow unblemished team Kazakhstan (4-0) this Friday, June 12.
Iran, for its next game, challenges Hong Kong (1-3) also Friday at the same venue.
Thuy Tran starred for Vietnam with 21 points on 19 attacks and two blocks, while Thi Bich Thuy Tran and Thi Thuy Dinh conspired for 20 points.
Fatemeh Khalili Chermahini paced Iran with 18 points off 14 spikes, one block, and three aces, while Sepinood Dastbarjan added eight points in a losing effort.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan molished Lebanon, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14, to go four in a row in the competition presented by the Philippine Sports Commission and the City of Candon headed by Mayor Eric D. Singson.
The Kazakhs attacked from all angles, breaking the game wide open, especially in the opening frame to secure the No. 1 spot in Group B with 12 points ahead of defending champ Vietnam (11).
Ekaterina Mikhailova and Dinara Razakberlina powered Kazakhstan with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Bota Uatayeva scored nine. For Lebanon, Shantalle Marie Demirjian was the lone double-digit scorer with 13 points.
Lebanon, which absorbed its fourth loss, eyes a breakthrough win against Indonesia (2-2) this Friday.
