The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Thursday, June 11, sent relief supplies and deployed Patient Transport Vehicles (PTVs) to communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao earlier this week.
In coordination with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Philippine Air Force (PAF), the agency airlifted food packs, hygiene kits, evacuation kits, medicine kits, and other emergency supplies to affected areas in General Santos City and Sarangani.
The operation forms part of the government’s continuing response to President Marcos’ directive for the swift delivery of assistance to communities affected by the earthquake.
PCSO said it prepared its relief cargo for transport at Villamor Air Base before dawn on Thursday and coordinated with the OCD and PAF to facilitate the rapid delivery of aid.
An Airbus C-295 aircraft departed Villamor Air Base at 8:20 a.m. carrying Charitimba food packs bound for General Santos City, it said.
The agency added that a succeeding C-130 flight left at around 11:30 a.m. to transport the remaining relief supplies intended for earthquake-hit communities in Southern Mindanao.
According to PCSO, the relief goods will be distributed to displaced families and residents in Barangays Calumpang, Apopong, and Lagao in General Santos City, as well as affected communities in the municipality of Malapatan, Sarangani.
Aside from the relief shipments, PCSO said it is deploying Patient Transport Vehicles from Cebu to support emergency response, medical assistance, and mobility needs in affected areas.

It noted that two PTVs each will be sent to Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Davao del Norte, while one PTV will be deployed to North Cotabato.
The assistance package includes Charitimba food packs, hygiene kits, evacuation kits, and medicine kits intended to support affected families and evacuees, the agency added.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles said the agency’s response began within the first 24 hours after the earthquake through its Authorized Agent Corporations (AACs), which immediately mobilized relief assistance to affected communities.
“In times of disaster, immediate action can make a real difference for families who have lost access to basic needs. PCSO, through our AACs, was able to respond within the first 24 hours, and we are continuing that effort by sending more essential supplies, medical support, and relief assistance to our kababayans affected by the earthquake in Southern Mindanao,” he said.
“This is part of our commitment to support the President’s directive for a swift and coordinated government response during calamities. We will continue to work with partner agencies to ensure that assistance reaches affected families as quickly and as efficiently as possible,” he went on.
The magnitude 7.8 tectonic earthquake struck off Southern Mindanao on June 8, damaging buildings, disrupting utility services, and prompting the suspension of classes and work in several areas as authorities continued to assess the extent of the damage.
Robles said PCSO will continue providing aid to communities affected by the earthquake, noting that the June 11 shipments are part of the agency’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts in Southern Mindanao.
“PCSO stands ready to provide assistance and work with our partners to help ensure that aid reaches the communities that need it most,” he stated.
