The Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc. (TMA) supported the Department of Transportation’s National Road Safety Campaign through a transport cooperative training program and participation in the National Road Safety Summit during National Road Safety Month.
TMA, which represents commercial vehicle manufacturers and distributors in the country, joined government and development partners in activities centered on road safety education, vehicle readiness, and responsible transport operations.
Together with the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, TMA conducted the National Road Safety Training on May 21, 2026 for members, drivers, operators, and mechanics of Lungsod Silangan Transport Service & Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Antipolo, Rizal.
The training covered Modern PUV standards, vehicle safety features and operations, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, pre-drive vehicle inspection, and fuel eco-driving practices. The program gave transport stakeholders practical knowledge that can be applied in daily operations.
TMA aligned its participation with three areas under the National Road Safety Campaign framework: capacity-building on standards and safety, support for vehicle inspection and validation awareness, and information and advocacy under the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan.
TMA President, Robert Carlos, addresses guests and participants at the National Road and Safety Summit.
TMA President Robert Carlos said safer roads require participation from all transport stakeholders. “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every driver, operator, manufacturer, and stakeholder have a role in creating safer roads and more reliable transport services. Through initiatives like this, we hope to empower transport communities with practical knowledge that can help improve both vehicle readiness and driving discipline in everyday operations.”
LTFRB Executive Director, Atty. Sherwin Vizconde, also attended the training and recognized the role of industry participation in bringing road safety education directly to transport operators and drivers.
“We are thankful to TMA for taking part in this year’s National Road Safety Campaign and for helping extend road safety education directly to transport cooperatives and drivers. Programs like this demonstrate how collaboration between government and the private sector can create meaningful outcomes for the transport sector and contribute to building a stronger culture of safety on our roads,” he said.
TMA also participated in the National Road Safety Summit held on May 26, the culminating activity of the DOTr-led campaign.
The summit gathered government agencies, transport groups, automotive associations, private sector organizations, and road safety advocates to present road safety initiatives and discuss ways to improve transport safety nationwide.
Through its exhibit, TMA presented the role of commercial vehicle manufacturers in safer transport operations. It also placed emphasis on continuous driver education, proper vehicle maintenance, and cooperation between industry and government.
The exhibit also gave TMA a venue to engage transport stakeholders and summit participants on how road safety extends beyond vehicle technology. Daily operating practices, inspection habits, maintenance discipline, and shared accountability remain important in reducing risks on the road.
Carlos also presented highlights of TMA’s National Road Safety Training initiative during the summit, showing how targeted education programs can reach transport communities directly.
TMA said it will continue working with government and industry partners on programs that strengthen transport safety, improve operating standards, and support safer mobility for Filipino communities.
