Taguig mobilizes rescue teams, K9 units for Mindanao quake response

The Taguig City government announced it is ready to deploy personnel to assist in ongoing response operations in areas affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.
The Taguig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has placed its search and rescue personnel, along with K9 units, on standby for deployment if needed.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake occurred at 7:37 a.m. with an offshore epicenter located 32 km west of Maasim, Sarangani, at a depth of 33 km. It registered the highest intensity of VII (destructive) in General Santos City.
As of 6 p.m. on June 9, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 45 deaths, 487 injuries, and 17 missing persons due to the earthquake.
The city government also said it is prepared to deploy personnel from the City Health Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office to support humanitarian operations.
Assistance may include psychosocial first aid, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions, as well as disease surveillance and outbreak prevention measures.
“As rescue and relief operations continue, the City of Taguig extends its prayers and sympathies to the families and communities affected by the disaster, and prays for the safety of all responders, volunteers, and frontliners working tirelessly to save lives and bring assistance to those in need,” the statement read.
A total of 33,596 individuals were affected by the earthquake.
