SHFC suspends housing payments for Mindanao quake victims
State-run Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) has granted a one-month moratorium on amortization payments for member-beneficiaries in communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck Mindanao.
In a statement on Wednesday, June 10, SHFC said the payment reprieve covers the period from June 8 to July 7, 2026, allowing affected beneficiaries to temporarily defer their monthly amortization payments without penalties. The moratorium may be extended depending on the extent of the damage caused by the disaster.
The measure will benefit SHFC member-beneficiaries in Davao City and General Santos City.
SHFC, an attached agency of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), said the payment moratorium is intended to provide immediate financial relief to families recovering from the impact of the earthquake and follows the directive of DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for prompt assistance to affected communities.
SHFC President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Federico Laxa said the moratorium would allow families to focus on recovery and rebuilding efforts.
“In times of calamity, families should focus on their safety and rebuilding their lives—not on worrying about their monthly payments,” Laxa said.
“Through this moratorium, SHFC stands with the national government and with our communities as we get back on our feet as one nation,” Laxa added.
SHFC said the payment suspension also reflects its commitment to supporting safe, affordable, and resilient housing communities, particularly during times of crisis.
