President Marcos said the reconstruction of two school buildings at San Francisco High School in Quezon City demonstrates what the government can accomplish when public funds are used for their intended purpose.

During his inspection of the newly completed Dao Building and Henry Sy Sr. Hall on Wednesday, June 10, the President pointed to the project's completion in just eight months as proof that public infrastructure can be delivered quickly and efficiently.

“At malaking bagay ito dahil nais kong ipakita kapag ang pera ng gobyerno ay ginagamit sa tama, ito ‘yung kaya nating gawin (And this is significant because I want to show that when government money is used properly, this is what we can achieve),” he said.

“Kaya natin magtayo ng four storeys (We can build a four-story structure), 60 classrooms in eight months’ time,” he added.

The President also underscored the importance of ensuring that government funds benefit the public rather than private interests.

“And we're working together, makita naman talaga ninyo (so that you can truly see) what it is that we can achieve as long as the money goes to the project, not into people's pockets,” he said.

“Basta't pumasok sa proyekto nang tama, ay ganito ang ating nagagawa (As long as the funds are properly spent on the project, this is what we can accomplish),” he added.

Built in eight months

Marcos visited the campus nearly a year after a fire damaged school facilities on June 15, 2025.

He recalled that when he first inspected the site after the incident, the damaged structure was beyond use and close to being condemned.

“Nakita naman natin na talagang walang-wala na. Hindi na magamit (We saw that it was completely devastated. It could no longer be used). It was even on the verge of being condemned,” he said.

The President said the original two-story building was redesigned into a four-story structure to maximize available space.

According to Malacañang, the new Dao Building, constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways, now houses 36 classrooms.

The Henry Sy Sr. Hall, funded by SM Supermalls, adds another 24 classrooms.

Both facilities were completed four months ahead of schedule.

From 10 classrooms to 60

Marcos said the reconstruction significantly expanded the school's capacity.

“From 10 classrooms, we now have 60 – times six,” he said.

The President noted that the additional classrooms have improved both scheduling and learning conditions for students.

“Kaya naging mas maluwag ang schedule, naging mas maluwag ang physical location ng ating mga bata, which is conducive to better learning (As a result, schedules are now less crowded and students have more physical space, which is conducive to better learning),” he said.

No more double shifts

President Marcos said one of the biggest benefits of the project is that students and teachers no longer need to endure extended schedules caused by classroom shortages.

“Ang pinakamalaking bagay dito ay hindi na sila nagdo-double shift (The biggest thing here is that they no longer have to do double shifts),” he said.

“Ang mga bata nakakauwi ng alas-3, alas-4. Ganoon din ‘yung ating mga guro na imbes na umuuwi ng alas-7, alas-8 ng gabi ay nakakauwi na sila kagaya ng normal na estudyante (The students can now go home at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Likewise, our teachers, instead of going home at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., can now go home like normal students),” he added.

The President also highlighted new safety features in the buildings, including a sprinkler system designed to prevent future fires.

“At ito, may panibago: may sprinkler system na para hindi na magkasunog ulit (And this now has a new sprinkler system, so that another fire will not happen again),” he said.

San Francisco High School serves around 6,800 students and is one of the largest public secondary schools in the country.
