The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided at least ₱21.3 million worth of assistance to families and individuals affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8.
Based on the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) report as of June 10, the agency has distributed 15,930 family food packs, more than 4,000 ready-to-eat food boxes, and other non-food items to affected families.
The DSWD has also released ₱4.76 million in cash assistance under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program for injured individuals, bereaved families, and other affected residents.
“Lahat po ng maaaring ibigay at i-deploy para makapagbigay ng ginhawa sa mga kababayan natin na lubos na naapektuhan ay ginagawa natin (We are doing everything we can to provide relief to our fellow Filipinos who were severely affected),” DSWD Disaster Response Management Bureau Director Maria Isabel Lanada said.
Lanada said assisting local government units and ensuring that affected residents receive needed aid remain priorities in the ongoing response operations.
According to DSWD, the earthquake affected 197,750 individuals or 43,716 families in 231 barangays across Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Currently, 3,633 families are staying in evacuation centers.
“Sa mga ganito pong panahon, mahalaga na maalalayan natin ang mga apektadong lokal na pamahalaan at maihatid natin ang lahat ng kailangan ng mga apektadong residente. Hindi rin po titigil ang DSWD, kasama ng iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno at mga pribadong sektor, hangga’t hindi nakababangong muli ang mga kababayan natin (At times like this, it is important that we support affected local governments and deliver all the assistance needed by affected residents. The DSWD, together with other government agencies and the private sector, will continue its efforts until communities recover),” she said.
The DSWD said it has ₱839.43 million in standby funds and around 4.8 million family food packs prepositioned in warehouses nationwide.
